DoE awards 19 contracts

The Department of Energy recently awarded a new batch of 19 service contracts covering the development of renewable energy sources such as geothermal, hydro, wind, ocean and biomass to eight firms.

Data from the DOE showed that should these contracts push through-the proposed power projects will generate at least 370 megawatts (MW).

Of the contracts awarded, five were for geothermal; two for biomass; six for hydropower projects; one for ocean energy; and five for wind projects.

Those awarded geothermal service contracts were SKI Construction Group Inc. for a 40-MW geothermal power project in Bulusan, Sorsogon; Clean Rock Renewable Energy Resources Corp. for a 40-MW power facility in Natib, Bataan and a 60-MW proposed project in Daklan, Benguet; PNOC-Renewables Corp. for a 70-MW project in Isarog, Camarines Sur; and Energy Development Corp. for a 65-MW geothermal project in Labo, Camarines Norte.

DOE data also showed that Phil-Korean Energy Corp. was awarded a service contract for a 30-MW biomass power project in Puerto Princesa, Palawan and Green Power Panay Phils. Inc., for a 17.5-MW biomass facility in Mina, Iloilo.

Those awarded hydropower service contracts were identified as SKI Mini-Hydro for three separate power projects in Sagnay, Camarines Sur; and Natural Power Sources Integration Inc., also for three separate proposals in Amlan, Negros Oriental.

Meanwhile, the Lopez-led EDC was awarded five wind service contracts for its proposed projects. Its site in Brgy. Balaoi, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte alone was estimated to generate about 40 MW.

EDC however, has yet to disclose more details regarding its proposed wind power projects in Mahinog-Sagay-Guinsiliban, Camiguin; Taytay, Palawan; San Jose, Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte; and Dapa-Gen. Luna-Pilar-Del Carmen, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

An ocean energy service contract was also awarded to Bell Pirie Power Corp., for a planned 5-MW Cabangan Ocean Energy Project in Cabangan, Zambales.
