UK renewable energy firm into biomass, wind projects
UK-BASED Global Green Power PLC Corp. is looking at developing 360 megawatts (MW) of biomass power generators and 200 MW of wind power in various locations around the country.
"We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity and with the passing of the renewable energy law, we feel that now is the right time," Global Green Power President David de Montaigne said yesterday in a phone interview.
Bidding for equipment and services for an initial three 15-MW biomass power plants in Panay, Nueva Ecija, and Pangasinan are underway, according to Mr. Montaigne. The three biomass power plants will cost $40 million each. A fourth biomass plant will be built in Negros island by next year, he added.
The three power plants will be capable of generating about 30 MW of power but only half of the capacity would be produced at start-up.
